‘Nights of Knockouts’ Swedru launched. Here’s everything you should know

Green Code Boxing Promotions, organizers of the ‘Night of Knockouts’ Swedru has held a press launch for the event.

The launch took place yesterday [November 5, 2018] at the Swedru Town Hall.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. George Gyamfi who chaired the confab lauded organizers of the event for thinking outside the box.

He said it has been long since the Swedru township waited for this glorious opportunity since most of it citizenry are young people and boxing is also for the youth, adding that about three decades ago when himself and others used to train as boxers they waited for such chance but remained a wishful thinking.

Mr. Gyamfi who seemed enthused told boxers at the launch there is a lot of money in boxing, citing the lifestyle of Floyd Mayweather among other US Boxers to battress his point hence encouraged them to work harder.

He, however called on Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Member of Parliament for the Agona West Municipality and The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Mrs Cynthia Morrison to support the agenda as boxing in a way creates jobs.

About the rationale for the event, Mr. Adnan Abdul Rauf promoter of the bout disclosed that his wish to make Swedru and Central Region at large as a hub for boxers motived him to put up such event.

He added that he wants to restore the lost glory of the Ghana Boxing Industry.

The western and central regional boxing coach Mr. Sanni who was present at the short ceremony said there would be a special justification bout among 40 good selected boxers at Swedru in the Central Region to make the final selection for the Ghana National Boxing team, the Black Bombers.

Boxing superstar Basti Samir and the national boxing coach Dr Ofori Asare will also be there to grace the event.

On the perception that boxing as a career is for the waywards in the society Coach Sanni during his speech noted that as young people what matters is what feed us therefore they should fall deaf ears to those critics and work hard.

“The only way to shoot up is to train” he said

Nurudeen Chibsah, organiser of the bout told the press there would be a float across the principal streets of Agona Swedru starting at the Old Saw Mills 10:00am prompt to create awareness and prepare grounds for the bout the next day.

He further added the night will witness an entertainment package and musical interludes from high profile musicians in the Central Region.

The night of thrilling boxing experience, dubbed “Nights Of Knockouts” will come off Friday, December 28th at the Swedru Sports Stadium.

The event will be sanctioned under Green Code Boxing Promotions and ably coordinated by Yidana Kugbila the regional coach.

The ‘Night of Knockouts’ is brought to you by Green Code Boxing Promotions in collaboration with Ghana Boxing Federation and the National Sports Authority.
